• Hit the books = To study really hard!
- I didn’t study at all for the test tomorrow. I’ve got to hit the books!
- I can’t go to the movies with you tonight. I need to hit the books for my finals.
* 책을 때리다 = 정말 열심히 공부한다!
- 내일 시험을 위해서 공부를 전혀 못했어. 빨리 책에 묻혀야 돼!
- 오늘 저녁 같이 영화 못봐. 내일 기말고사라서 공부에 집중해야 돼.
• Hit the road = To leave; to get going; to start a journey
- I’m late for my meeting. I should hit the road.
- We should sleep early tonight because we have to hit the road early tomorrow.
도로로 향하다 = 떠나는, ~로 가는, 여행을 시작하는.
- 회의에 늦었다. 빨리 가야지
- 내일 아침 일찍 여행가기 때문에 일찍 자야되.
• Hit it off = To get along really well; to become friendly quickly
- (Friends) Krystal and Stella hit it off really well and they are now close friends.
- (Romantic) Henry and Jane went on a date and they really hit it off. They are now officially dating!
* 잘 시작하다 = 절말 잘 어울리는, 빨리 친해지는 것.
- (친구) 크리스탈이랑 스텔라는 처음부터 아주 잘 맞아서 지금은 아주 절친이야.
- (로맨틱) 헨리랑 제인은 처음에 만났을 때 분위기가 아주 좋았는데, 이금은 공식적으로 사귀고 있어!
• Hit the spot! = (usually food) Really satisfying! Quite refreshing!
- I was super thirsty and this drink really hit the spot! = 제대론데!
- That was a delicious meal, Krystal! It hit the spot!
* 명중을 찌르다! = (보통 음식을 표현 할때) 아주 만족스럽다! 신선하다!

• Hit [NEGATIVE] Take a hit.
The Korean economy TOOK a hit during the global financial crisis.
= major loss (business; sales)
= affect negatively (usually in large scale)
* 맞다, 때리다 (부정적) 한대 맞다
한국경제는 세계 금융 위기때 큰 타격을 입었다.
= 큰 타격/손상 (회사, 판매)
= 악영향 (큰 규모)

Did you know?
A long time ago when people didn't have beds, they slept on sacks of hay, like in a barn.
They would usually beat the hay to get rid of bugs and fluff it up before sleeping.
That is why we often say "hit the hay" or "hit the sack" when we say “I’m going to sleep!”
옛날, 침대가 없었을때, 사람들은 헛간에 있는 건초 위에서 잠을 잤는데,
자기 전에 벌래들을 없애고, 푹신푹신하게 하기 위해서 건초를 마구 때렸습니다.
그래서 영어로 우리가 "hit the hay" 아니면 "hit the sack”이라고 하면, 나 자러갈께~ 라는 뜻입니다.
